Doug Pederson keeps sounding delusional with latest comments on Jaguars locker room

Between the fact that only one team in the NFL has gotten off to an 0-4 start and the regression of quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson is making a very strong case to be the first coach fired in the middle of the season during the 2024 campaign.

Nothing is going right for Jacksonville. The offensive line is a bunch of turnstiles, Lawrence is in the middle of one of the worst four-game stretches of his post-Urban Meyer career, and the defense has fallen off a cliff. Pederson, meanwhile, seems to have shifted the blame to his players.

Much like how his tenure with Philadelphia came to an end despite having won a Super Bowl just a few years later, the rigid Pederson seems to have lost control of his team. His latest quotes make him sound even more arrogant and detached from reality than he did in the last few years.

Pederson told reporters that he has "not lost the locker room" in response to a report from Jordan Schultz claiming the exact opposite. Quite frankly, if this is even a point of discussion, the locker room has soured on him.

Doug Pederson has tone-deaf response to Jaguars 0-4 start

Much like how things fell apart during a 4-11-1 season in 2020 with the Eagles, Pederson, who went 9-8 in his first two seasons with the Jaguars and won a playoff game, is starting to look outdated. Much like he did in Philly, Pederson appears to have hit his ceiling and overstayed his welcome.

His success in Jacksonville came from the fact that being "not Urban Meyer" and having fresh offensive ideas was everything Lawrence needed at the time. Since then, his inability to change and insistence on incompetent offensive coordinator Press Taylor having an elevated role is hurting everyone.

While Pederson is by no means blameless for this horrid start, as GM Trent Baalke could be even more responsible for the mess in front of them right now, he's handling this the wrong way. Putting the blame on the players is one thing, but acting like everything is fine when the organization is on fire is just insulting.

The Jaguars have some young players at important positions, and Lawrence is locked in for the next few years. This team should not be this bad, though continued struggles could force even a notoriously patient owner like Shad Khan to make a move. The sooner it happens, the better.
