If you ask anyone to rank NFL quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes will be sitting alone in a tier of his own. However, spots No. 2 to No. 3 will be more challenging to sort out. Some may see Josh Allen as the second-best passer in the league. Joe Burrow may also get the nod. Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott will also get consideration. Just recently, former NFL MVP Cam Newton shared his thoughts on the pecking order.

Newton said on the 4th & 1 podcast that he would pick Dak Prescott over Kirk Cousins, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence and Kyler Murray, citing their lack of playoff success as the reason. On the other hand, he would choose Mahomes, Jared Goff, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and even Deshaun Watson over the Dallas quarterback.

"The top 10 goes as follows," Newton said. "We got Trevor Lawrence. We got Joe Burrow, okay. Jared Goff, okay. Justin Herbert, okay. Lamar Jackson, okay. Jalen Hurts, okay. Kyle Murray, okay. Deshawn Watson, okay. Patrick Mahomes, ok. Kirk Cousins, okay. There's only one guy who has a Super Bowl, and there's a lot of guys on here that doesn't have a lot of playoff success."

Newton continued, "So if you go sit up here and judge that Prescott on playoff success, and I'm looking at a list of guys that don't even have no playoff experience or not even the playoff win... so that my boy back to you, if you want to put your team in the bind, and you want $56 million or $55.5 million cool, but you going to put us in an in a bind. He's worth it. [expletive] is he worth it. I'm looking at the list."

Overall, Newton presents some valid points. Prescott has cemented his place as one of the best signal-callers in the league. You will routinely see him make the top 10 or even top 5 of most quarterback rankings.

That said, it was a bit odd to watch Newton praise Watson, as he's barely played the past two seasons due to injuries and a suspension he served for violations to the league's conduct policy. As a matter of fact, he's played a combined 12 games the past three years. Here's the full discussion.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is younger Dak Prescott and his peers

It's true that Trevor Lawrence only has one playoff win, but that's one more than Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert. Moreover, he's just entering his fourth season in the league while Dak Prescott is coming off his eighth.

It would be one thing if Lawrence was a savvy veteran, but he's in the early stages of his career. Meanwhile, Prescott has a 2-5 record in the playoffs and has never reached the NFC Championship.

It's also worth noting that when Newton made the case for picking Prescott over other quarterbacks, he talked about supporting casts, and Lawrence had one of the worst ones ever during his rookie season. Murray has also suited up for some underwhelming Cardinals teams.

This doesn't mean Prescott is a lesser quarterback than Lawrence. Far from it. He's entering a contract year and deserves to sign a top-market extension. Whether it comes from Big D or any other team, remains to be seen. However, if the Jacksonville Jaguars had to choose between the two, they'd pick Trevor Lawrence in a heartbeat.

Lawrence's development hasn't been linear but the Jags know Trevor Lawrence is their guy and can take them to the promised land, which is why they made him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
