Biggest draft steals in Jaguars history
One of the biggest reasons the Jacksonville Jaguars have failed to be a perennial contender is that they haven't been very good at drafting. Granted, they have had their fair share of hits and they have had a bit more success in recent years, but their misses have been too many to overcome. That said, not everything has been doom and gloom when it comes to the Jags acquiring difference-makers.
Every now and then, Jacksonville has stumbled upon players who have gone on to become key contributors, many of them for several years. These five come to mind.
Josh Scobee, Kicker - Round 4, 2004
When the Jags used a fourth-round pick on Josh Scobee back in 2004, they might not have imagined that they wouldn't have to worry about the kicker position for more than 11 years but that's precisely what ended up happening. While Scobee never made the Pro Bowl or earned a First-Team selection, he was as reliable as they come, completing 80.8 percent of his attempts during his stint with the Jags.
However, all things must come to an end and the Jaguars decided to move on from Scobee in 2015. At the time, they carried him and fellow kicker Jason Myers because they thought a team would show interest in the former. They were right, as the Pittsburgh Steelers ended up trading for him.
Looking back the decision to trade Scobee was a mixed bag. He went on to have an underwhelming season in Pittsburgh, so you could argue that they parted ways with him at the right time. At the same time, Myers was not an ideal replacement, and Jacksonville struggled to find stability at kicker until Josh Lambo arrived in 2017.
Scobe eventually returned to Duval to ink a one-year deal that ensured the retired as a Jaguar. Even after his playing days were over, he remains involved in the community and will proudly represent the Jags anywhere he goes.
