AFC South post-NFL Free Agency rankings: Where do Jacksonville Jaguars land?
3. AFC South rankings post 2023 NFL Free Agency: Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans raised eyebrows across the NFL when they chose to part ways with general manager Jon Robinson at the midpoint of the 2022 season. Given the timing of the firing, the decision seemed baffling but one look at the current state of the roster shows the Titans probably made the right call.
Although Robinson was key to acquiring players such as Ryan Tannehill and running back Derrick Henry, he also failed to maximize their chance to win in order to focus on the future. This approach left a roster that was good enough to appear in the AFC Championship in 2019 in dire conditions. One of Robinson's most questionable moves came last year, when he traded wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a first-round pick. Philly went on to play in the Super Bowl while Tennessee finished the 2022 season riding a six-game losing streak.
New Titans general manager Ran Carthon has his work cut out and is off to a relatively solid start. While Tennessee parted ways with Pro Bowl center Ben Jones and left tackle Taylor Lewan in an effort to free up cap room, they also signed cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting and poached defensive end Arden Key from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On the other hand, Carthon turned a few heads when he gave former first-round pick Andre Dillard a three-year deal worth $19. He's expected to fill in at left tackle but he struggled during his tenure with the Eagles and it's hard to see him putting it all together.
Carthon is doing what he can with the hand he was dealt. All things considered, things could be better but they could also be worse in Tennessee.
