No. 2 Jaguars worst pick of the Trent Baalke era: Jalen Camp, WR

Have you ever heard of the sunk-cost fallacy? It basically means that you keep pouring resources into an investment because you've already committed lots of time or money. This is an economics principle but can be applied in the NFL, where clubs often keep players around one or two years too long because they want to prove their investment (draft pick, or free agent contract) was justified.

Then again, there have been instances when teams cut their losses and (rightfully) move on. The Arizona Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray first overall in 2019 despite the fact that they had used a first-round selection on Josh Rosen the year before. A more recent example occurred in 2021, when the Tennessee Titans traded Isaiah Wilson to the Miami Dolphins less than a year after drafting him 29th overall.

Even though it was nearly as impactful, the Jaguars also pulled the plug on wide receiver Jalen Camp just a few months after taking him in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. This was a bit odd since Jacksonville needed to add depth to their wide receiver corps At the tie, DJ Chark Jr., Laviska Shenault Jr., and Marvin Jones Jr. were the team's top three receivers on the depth chart.

Not long after the Jaguars released Camp, he was picked off waivers by the rival Houston Texans. Over the last two years, the former Georgia Tech Yellowjacket has been on and off the Texans' practice squad and has hauled in one reception in five games. At this point, it's hard to picture Camp being anything more than a practice squad candidate in 2023.
