5 players who won't be on the Jaguars 53-man roster come Week 1

The Jags have lots of depth at most position groups heading into the 2023 season. This will make it difficult for these five players to make the 53-man roster.

No. 1 player who won't be on the Jaguars roster come Week 1: Snoop Conner, RB

The Jaguars' running back room won't be often listed among the best in the league but it certainly stacks up favorably against most of them. Besides Travis Etienne, who's coming off a productive 2022 season, Jacksonville has a pretty good RB2 in rookie Tank Bigsby, who's seen his stock rise over the last few months.

Bigsby, a third-round pick in this year's draft, was one of the team's starts in training camp. Also, he's flashed starting potential in the preseason, racking up 22 carries for 122 yards over the last two games. Although Etienne will carry most of the workload in 2023, Bigsby has done enough to earn a role on offense this upcoming season.

Behind Etienne and Bigsby, the Jags have D'Ernest Johnson and JaMycal Hasty. Johnson, who signed a one-year deal in free agency, has also made the most of his playing time in the preseason. Meanwhile, Hasty got a two-year contract extension in the offseason and provides depth to a loaded running back group.

This surplus at the position could make sophomore Snoop Conner expendable. A fifth-round pick in last year's draft, Conner made the 53-man roster but was a weekly inactive until Jacksonville traded James Robinson to the New York Jets. And even then, he was used sparingly.

The former Ole Miss Rebel ended his rookie year with 13 carries for 42 yards with one touchdown. He's been underwhelming in two preseason games and it's hard to see him get a roster spot over Hasty or Johnson.
