5 players who won't be on the Jaguars 53-man roster come Week 1

The Jags have lots of depth at most position groups heading into the 2023 season. This will make it difficult for these five players to make the 53-man roster.

No. 4 player who won't be on the Jaguars roster come Week 1: Kendrick Pryor, WR

The Jaguars revamped their receiving room last year. Besides giving top-market contracts to Christian Kirk and Zay Jones in free agency, they also took a dive into the waiver wire to claim Kendrick Pryor before the start of the 2022 season.

Pryor signed with the Cincinnati Bengals after going undrafted. He made a strong impression in training camp but wasn't able to make the 53-man roster. Once Cincy waived him, the Jags swooped in and claimed him. The former Wisconsin Badger spent the whole season on the active roster but was a healthy scratch and didn't get a single snap.

Heading into the finale, Pryor might have a hard time earning a roster spot for the season straight year, and it isn't necessarily for a lack of talent. He flashed potential when he was given a chance in the 2022 preseason, reeling in 13 catches for 182 yards. The problem is that several receivers on the Jaguars' roster have outplayed him over the last few months.

Tim Jones, who also made the 53-man roster last year, just made a 48-yard catch against the Dallas Cowboys. Moreover, he's shown prowess as a blocker. Similarly, Jacob Harris, Seth Williams and Elijah Woods have made enough plays to deserve strong consideration for a roster spot.

Pryor has one more week to make his case but right now, he looks like a candidate to either land in the practice squad or be claimed off waivers.
