• The Jaguars have lots of depth at most position groups. This will make it difficult for a few players to see the field on game day, including the next 5.

No. 1 Jaguars player most likely to be inactive on game day: Elijah Cooks, WR

As noted earlier, it's one thing to make the 53-man roster. It's a whole different one to have a huge role once the season starts, and that seems to be the situation wide receiver Elijah Cooks will be in this season.

After going undrafted, Cooks signed with the Jaguars and went on to make a positive impression in training camp. He followed that up with several strong performances in the preseason. With the four spots on the depth chart earmarked for Calvin Ridley, Jamal Agnew, Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, there was seemingly only one or two jobs up for grabs.

Tim Jones, who made the roster last year after his preseason heroics was a candidate to get a spot. Rookie Parker Washington was the other. But against all predictions, the Jaguars kept seven wide receivers, and Cooks was one of them.

All things considered, Cooks' spot on the roster was warranted. He's got the tools to develop into a red-zone weapon at 6'5". On the other hand, the Jaguars won't probably call his name often in 2023. With Ridley, Kirk, and Jones, alongside tight end Evan Engram, getting most of the workload, there won't be enough targets for everyone else, which could lead the team's brass to make Cooks inactive on game day.

Like most players on the list, Cooks won't get many chances early on because they're stuck behind several players but if they keep grinding like they did this past offseason, more opportunities should come in 2024.
