5 Jaguars players most likely to be inactive on game day in 2023
No. 2 Jaguars player most likely to be inactive on game day: Christian Braswell, CB
This one was a bit of a tough one given that the Jaguars also have depth at safety. With Rayshawn Jenkins, Andre Cisco and Andrew Wingard taking the top three spots at the position, Daniel Thomas and rookie Antonio Johnson could either be relegated to special teams or not play at all. Having said that, it's equally hard to see first-year cornerback Christian Braswell getting much playing time early on.
The Jaguars' top three corners are Tyson Campbell, Darious Williams, and Tre Herndon. Behind them are sophomore Gregory "Buster" Junior and Montaric Brown. Campbell is one of the top 10 corners in the league and Williams played well once he moved to the boundaries last year.
Herndon returns to the slot in 2023 but there's a chance he'll share playing time with Junior, who's one of the most improved players from last year. Similarly, Brown could see lots of snaps in the perimeter while Chris Claybrooks remains on the Commissioner exempt list, however long that is.
Braswell, a sixth-round pick in this year's draft, flashed potential in training camp and even snagged an interception in the preseason. On the other hand, he won't get many snaps unless the injury bug hits Jacksonville. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Last year, Junior and Brown hardly played but they're now slated to have bigger roles in Year 2.
While Braswell may not be thrilled to take a backseat in his rookie season, the Jags should feel good about the current state of the cornerback position and their depth ahead of the 2023 season.
