5 Jaguars players most likely to be inactive on game day in 2023
No. 3 Jaguars player most likely to be inactive on game day: JaMycal Hasty, RB
The Jaguars had a pair of fine running backs last year but they didn't have many options behind them. While James Robinson and Travis Etienne gave Jacksonville a one-two punch at the position, they didn't have much depth at the position. Then-rookie Snoop Conner and Ryquell Armstead competed for the No. 3 job in the summer.
Conner ended up winning but not thrilled with their options at running back, the Jags claimed JaMycal Hasty off waivers. Robinson began the season as the starter but was later phased out in favor or Etienne. Later, Robinson was shipped to the New York Jets and Hasty became the top backup at the position. Meanwhile, Conner was a healthy scratch early in the season and didn't get much playing time even after Robinson was traded.
Knowing they needed upgrades, the Jags revamped their backfield in the offseason. They brought back Hasty on a two-year deal but they also inked D'Ernest Johnson and later drafted Tank Bigsby. Both Johnson and Bigsby have passed Hasty on the depth chart and Conner began the season in the practice squad.
Etienne is firmly entrenched as the starter entering the 2023 season and Bigsby did enough to earn the No. 2 job in training camp. Add Johnson, who can come off the bench at any time and contribute on special teams, the Jaguars won't need Hasty much this upcoming season.
While it's not odd to see four teams carry four running backs into the regular season, it would be odd to see the Jaguars use all of them on game day, which is why it wouldn't be shocking to see Hasty be a healthy scratch.
