The Jaguars could trade away S Daniel Thomas

Knowing that players who just signed new deals aren't off limits, the Jaguars could consider trading safety Daniel Thomas, who inked a two-year contract in the offseason. A fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft, the former Auburn Tiger got a chance to start as a rookie before an arm injury cut his season short. He started two more games in 2021 but has hardly logged any defensive snaps the past two seasons.

On the other hand, Thomas has developed into a steady contributor on special teams. Hence, the decision to bring him back. Having said that, the Jaguars are stacked at safety, so they could afford to move him or Andrew Wingard. Given that Dewey is a respected veteran and a locker room leader, the front office may be inclined to deal Thomas.

When you factor in that either undrafted free agent Josh Proctor or sophomore Erick Hallet II could fill in Thomas' spot, the Jaguars could be incentize to trade Thomas to a team who needs depth at safety.

The Jaguars could trade away CB Gregory Junior

Even though cornerback is one of the Jaguars' biggest question marks ahead of the 2024 season, they have a handful of options at the position. Ronald Darby and Tyson Campbell will tentatively start. Rookie Jarrian Jones will probably be third on the depth chart, and Montaric Brown was the primary backup last year.

That leaves Gregory Junior having to compete with Tre Flowers and sophomore Christian Braswell for a roster spot. As recently as last year, Junior got praise from head coach Doug Pederson, who called him one of the most improved players. Unfortunately, the regular season started and injuries held the former Ouachita Baptist standout back.

In the end, Junior ended up appearing in nine games and loggin 93 defensive snaps. If the Jags believe Braswell has shown enough progress, Junior could be a victim of the numbers game. And if that's the case, the team's brass would be better off shopping him around instead of waiving him and getting nothing in return.
