The Jacksonville Jaguars have done a good job of revamping the roster in the offseason. Besides adding players who are expected to have an impact right off the bat, the Jags also brought in several players to compete for jobs in training camp.

As the saying goes, iron sharpens iron and the following five players will be given a chance to compete for a roster spot in the summer. But if they fail to show out, they could be gone before the start of the regular season.

Jaguars WR Elijah Cooks could be a cut candidate going into the summer

Wide receiver Elijah Cooks made the initial 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent last year. However, you look at it, that's a feat worth recognizing. However, the regular season came, and the former San Jose State Spartan wasn't able to do much of note.

Cooks was a healthy scratch nearly half the season, and he barely got any playing time when he was active on game day. He ended up appearing in just 18 percent of the offensive snaps, hauling in a measly three receptions for no touchdowns.

One thing that ultimately helped Cooks make the team was that the Jags decided to carry seven receivers last year. It's hard to see them keeping as many in 2024. That means that the California native may have a harder time earning a roster spot this time around.

Even though Jacksonville didn't add a single receiver on Days 2 or 3 of this past draft, they did sign five afterward. Among the ones they brought in, Joshua Cephus has been given a favorable chance to make the initial roster.

Cooks will have an edge by virtue of being the veteran but that doesn't mean he can take Cephus or any of the other newcomers lightly. If anything, he might need to work harder than he did in 2023 to stick around.
