The Jacksonville Jaguars were operating with limited cap space in the offseason but they did a good job of keeping last year's core together. Although they weren't able to bring back all their free agents -- right tackle Jawaan Taylor and defensive end Arden Key signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans, respectively -- they managed to players that filled in key roles in 2022.

Heading into training camp, the Jags won't have many starting jobs open for competition but there are a handful of positions that will make for intriguing battles in the summer. In particular, these five will be worth monitoring:

No. 5 Jaguars intriguing position battle: Parker Washington vs. Tim Jones

The Jaguars have a talented wide receiver trio in Zay Jones, Christian Kirk, and Calvin Ridley. If needed, Jamal Agnew can also play a few snaps on offense but the Jags need a No. 5 that can come onto the football field and make a few plays if needed.

Tim Jones solidified a spot on the 53-man roster after an outstanding preseason performance. However, once the regular season began, he went missing, finishing the year with three receptions for 30 yards and no touchdowns on four targets.

You could make the case that the Jags simply didn't have enough targets for everyone last year but if the coaching staff had trusted Jones more, they would have found ways to get him involved on offense. Next, Jones will have to fend off rookie Parker Washington in training camp.

Washington is projected to line up in the slot and under the tutelage of Christian Kirk, he should be able to make a positive impression in training camp. Of course, he'll need to beat Jones if he wants to get on the field next season.
