No. 3 player the Jaguars won't miss in 2023: Riley Patterson, K

For a moment, it seemed like the Jaguars had found a long-term answer at kicker when they claimed Riley Patterson off waivers before the start of the 2022 season. It's easy to forget now but they went through several players in training camp before they came across Patterson.

Even though the former Memphis Tiger went through a rough stretch at the midpoint of the season, he bounced back and went 16-of-16 in the last seven games. Moreover, he nailed the game-winning field goal against the Los Angeles Chargers in Super Wild Card Weekend.

Heading into the 2023 season, it looked like Patterson's spot on the roster was secured but the Jaguars traded him to the Detroit Lions when the Denver Broncos made Brandon McManus available not long ago.

Patterson was the most efficient of the two last year but McManus has been consistently good throughout his career and has a stronger leg. While it's true that McManus had a lower success rate in 2022, five of his eight misses were in field goals over 50 yards. Meanwhile, he nailed all but three of his 23 attempts of less than 50 yards. Heck, he went a perfect 10-of-10 in kicks between the 40 and 49 yards.

Nobody will argue that it stings to see a fan favorite go but the Jaguars wanted to improve their scoring efficiency and they did when they signed McManus.
