No. 3 Jaguars player who hurt his stock vs. the Cowboys, Shaquille Quarterman, LB

Linebacker Shaquille Quarterman has been a key contributor on special teams the last three years but he could be at risk of not making the Jaguars' 53-man roster in 2023. A fourth-round pick in the 2020 draft, Quarterman has appeared in 46 games for the Jaguars and has played well when called upon. However, he isn't more than a reserve at this stage of his career.

Quarterman plays the run well but struggles when he drops in coverage. This was evident against Dallas. He was targeted several times and he allowed most of the passes throw in his direction. The fact that the Jaguars are stacked at linebacker will probably make it difficult for him to stick around for one more year.

Now, it's important to keep things in perspective. Quarterman was never going to challenge veteran Foyesade Oluokun or sophomore Devin Lloyd for a starter job but he could make the team as a reserve/special team contributor. The issue with that is that the Jags have depth at linebacker and he'll need to show he's more deserving of a roster spot than sophomore Chad Muma or Caleb Johnson.

Let's say the Jaguars carry five off-linebackers next season, Quarterman won't probably make the cut but even if they want to keep six, Quarterman would need to fend off Dequan Jackson and Johnson. The good news is that he still has two games to make an impression but nobody will be shocked if he ends up being left out.
