No. 3 player at risk of tumbling down in Jaguars depth chart: Chris Claybrooks

Cornerback isn't necessarily a strength for the Jags ahead of the 2023 season but it isn't a weakness either. Darious Williams and an ascending Tyson Campbell are slated to line up in the boundaries while Tre Herndon is expected to man the slot in the opener. Beyond their top three corners, Jacksonville also has depth at the position.

Sophomores Greg Junior and Montaric Brown making strides with the former getting praised by head coach Doug Pederson on Day 4 of training camp. Rookie Christian Braswell could also be in the mix for the nickel job while Tevaugh Campbell had a strong outing against Zay Jones in practice.

This is to say that there's going to be tons of competition at cornerback and someone is going to end up being a victim of the numbers game. That could very well be, Chris Claybrooks. A seventh-round pick in the 2020 draft, Claybrooks has come off the bench when called upon and has also contributed on special teams. However, there are a couple of things working against him.

First, Claybrooks is entering a contract year and the Jaguars might want to give their younger corners a shot. On top of that, the former Memphis Tiger has been arrested twice this year, once in April and more recently in July.

Pederson says the team is letting the legal process play out and rightfully so. Once more information comes to light, they will then be able to make a decision. While it's uncertain if the situation will hurt Claybrook's chances of making the team, it won't certainly help him.
