One of the biggest storylines early in training camp for the Jacksonville Jaguars is that Trevor Lawrence has been underwhelming, throwing interceptions at an alarming rate. While he was better on Day 3, he's been picked up at least once in each practice.

This is a cause for concern when you take into account that his 21 turnovers ranked third in the league last year. Then again, the Jags are in the early stages of training camp, and Lawrence is surely testing the terrain, developing rapport with his pass catchers, and fine-tuning his timing. Having said that, the former Clemson Tiger is entering his third year in Doug Pederson's system, so you would like to see him have a better grasp of the offense.

The good news is that Lawrence and ample time to course correct before the start of the season. It's also worth noting that he's not the only Jaguars player who has struggled early in training camp. These four have also had a rough time.

Mac Jones is off to a slow start in Jaguars training camp

It's true that Trevor Lawrence is off to a great start to training camp but it's important to point out that the offense as a whole hasn't been able to hit his stride. In fact, Mac Jones has had as much of a hard time as his fellow quarterback.

Jeremiah Ledbetter picked off Jones on Day 3 of training camp and took it to the house. The day prior, he threw a pass was that nearly intercepted by Tevaughn Campbell who wasn't able to secure the ball.

Things didn't go much better for Jones the first day of practice. Linebacker Caleb Johnson had a pick off of him and later batted a pass intended for running back Tank Bigsby.

Like Lawrence, Jones has ample time to turn things around but you can't deny he hasn't been great early in training camp.

Brian Thomas Jr. is off to a slow start to Jaguars training camp

While fellow rookie Jarrian Jones has wasted no time to make his presence felt in training camp, Brian Thomas Jr. hasn't been able to build off of a promising offseason. A first-round pick in this year's draft, the former LSU Tiger showcased his athleticism and skills in Organized Team Activities and Mandatory Minicamp. However, he's been relatively quiet to start training camp.

On Day 3, Thomas couldn't reel in a pass Trevor Lawrence threw to him, with Ronald Darby ultimately intercepting it. The day before, he had a drop, and Tyson Campbell defensed a pass intended for the rookie receiver.

Having said that, Thomas' struggles aren't particularly surprising. While he's got the tools to become a legitimate deep threat, he's also making the adjustment to the pros. Back in college, he could win matchups with athletic skills alone. That won't cut it in the NFL.

Based on how things have played out in training camp, Thomas will need to hone his craft before he can make an impact, but that doesn't mean the Jaguars should have buyer's remorse. Simply, he needs to a bit of time to put it all together.

Tyson Campbell is off to a slow start to Jaguars training camp

Tyson Campbell's struggles are different from Mac Jones' and Brian Thomas'. Unlike his teammates, he hasn't been able to take the field because he's dealing with an ankle injury. For the sake of clarity, he's attended practice but has only partaken in position drills while missing 7-on-7s or 11-on-11s.

Now, you could say that it's not fair to hold injuries against players but the truth is that availability is the most important ability in football. You can have all the talent in the world but if you cannot suit up, it isn't of much use. In Campbell's case, Jacksonville just gave him a deal that makes him the highest-paid cornerback who's never made the Pro Bowl or get an All-Pro selection. The team's brass will surely want a return on their investment.

The silver lining is that Campbell still has ample time to recover before the opener. Then again, he would ideally be practicing and doing his best to acclimate to the team's new defensive scheme.

Steven Jones is off to a slow start to Jaguars training camp

One thing working Tyson Campbell has going for him is that he's got financial security long-term and doesn't have to worry about losing his job (for now). That's not the case for undrafted free agents like offensive guard Steven Jones, who's trying to earn a roster spot in Jacksonville.

The former Oregon Duck standout suffered a calf injury during condition tests and will be out for a few weeks. That's not ideal for a player who had a steep hill to make the team to begin with. The talent is certainly there. He had a late-round grade but ultimately didn't get his name called in the draft. Still, he has the tools to develop into an NFL backup.

The trouble is that the Jaguars beefed up their interior offensive line in the offseason, and there may not be room to keep Jones in 2024. He's currently behind Tyler Shatley, Cole Van Lanen, Cooper Hodges, and Darryl Williams on the depth chart. The Temecula, California native would need to leapfrog at least a few of them to have a shot at earning a roster spot but he's currently unable because of his calf injury.
