3 unsung contributors who have stepped up for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season
• Several players have contributed to their success
• These 3 have played important roles this season
The Jacksonville Jaguars kept control of the division after disposing of the Houston Texans in Week 12. Players such as Trevor Lawrence, wide receiver Calvin Ridley, and outside linebacker Josh Allen played a huge role in the win, and are a big reason for the team's recent success.
There are other players who don't get nearly the same attention but also have also contributed to the Jags in recent weeks. Here are three of them.
3. Montaric Brown
Tyson Campbell played like a top-10 cornerback last season. He was expected to keep ascending in Year 3 but a hamstring injury has forced him to miss several games. In his absence, the Jaguars have leaned on sophomore Montaric Brown, who's more than held his own.
Back in training camp, Brown got a shoutout from head coach Doug Pederson, who named him one of the most improved players since the end of the 2022 season. The Arkansas product was going to have trouble getting playing time behind Campbell and Darious Williams, but the injury to the latter in Week 6 paved the way for him.
Now, Brown hasn't been perfect, he struggled at times when assigned to rookie sensation Tank Dell. However, he played a pivotal role in the Thursday Night Football win over the New Orleans Saints, registering two passes defensed, including one with the game on the line.
Campbell is still nursing his hamstring and the Jaguars don't want to rush him back onto the field, so they'll keep relying on Brown. It won't always be pretty. After all, he's relatively inexperienced, having barely played as a rookie but he should be able to hold the fort while Jacksonville awaits for Campbell to return.
