No. 1 Jaguars HC Doug Pederson's biggest weakness
Doug Pederson needs to get off to stronger a stronger to the season
You have probably heard that it's not how you start but how you finish and that's sort of right, at least when it comes to the NFL. Sure, you can get off to a slow start and build momentum toward the end of the season but it also means the margin for error is slimmer if you want to get into the postseason. Similarly, you might need to depend on other clubs to either lose or beat a team that also wants to secure a playoff season.
Last year, the Jaguars started 2-6 and had to be nearly flawless the rest of the way to qualify for the postseason. They pulled it off but if they had won a few more games early in the season, they wouldn't have needed to be nearly flawless in the second half. Now, Pederson's sample is relatively small. He's only coached six full seasons but the one year that his team managed to win more than five of their first 10 games, they reached the Super Bowl.
Also, getting off to a strong start allows your team to build confidence. Similarly, you don't need to enter the season half of the season needed to sweep the board to create momentum. Clubs have more leeway and can afford to have a bad outing.
Heading into the 2022 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are a talented team with lots of playmakers at several positions. If they manage to get off to a hot start just like the 2017 Eagles did, maybe, just maybe they could also get the Super Bowl.
