3 reasons the Jaguars should trade for L'Jarius Sneed, 2 they shouldn't
Cornerback became a pressing need for the Jacksonville Jaguars after releasing Darious Williams. But even if they hadn't moved on from Williams, they would've probably had to address the position sooner rather than later.
After all, Tre Herndon, the team's primary nickel, is set to become a free agent, and Tyson Campell's contract runs through 2024. But even if the Jags had kept Williams, they would've likely needed to replace him next offseason, as he was entering the last year of the three-year deal worth $30 million he signed in 2022.
Fortunately for the Jaguars, they picked a good time to revamp their cornerback room. They'll be plenty of options in free agency and this year's draft class is stacked. But if they want to get the best of the best, they should then go after L'Jarius Sneed, who got the franchise tag but has been granted permission to seek a trade.
Sneed, a fourth-round pick in 2020, registered 14 passes defensed and two interceptions last year. On top of that, he's given up less than 10.0 yards per reception the past two seasons, routinely neutralizing opposing receivers.
A second-round pick could get a deal done and the Jags have shown interest in trading for Sneed, per Tyler Dragon of CBS Sports. This begs the question, should Jacksonville really acquire him? Here are the pros and cons of pulling the trigger.

3. L'Jarius Sneed may be better than any cornerback available in the open market
Had the Chiefs not used the franchise tag on Sneed, he would've been the best cornerback available. When you take into account that Jaylon Johnson has already signed a long-term deal with the Chicago Bears, the market is quickly shrinking ahead of free agency.
Kyle Fuller, Chidobe Awusie, Stephon Gilmore and the recently released Adoree' Jackson may be the best remaining options. Not one of them is better than Sneed.
