3 prospects we wish the Jacksonville Jaguars have selected in the 2023 NFL Draft
The reviews are in and the Jacksonville Jaguars have gotten good grades for the picks they made in the 2023 NFL Draft. Even though it's not a perfect haul, it's fair to say that the Jags took care of most of the needs they had. On top of that, they were able to add depth to a handful of position groups.
Having said that, the Jags might have missed the chance to draft some players with the potential to become building blocks. In particular, Jacksonville should have found a way to land these three prospects.
Prospect 3 we wish the Jacksonville Jaguars have drafted: Isaiah Foskey, EDGE
The Jaguars found a potential steal and an adequate replacement for defensive end Arden Key in Yasir Abdulla, who will join the pass rush duo of outside linebacker Josh Allen and Travon Walker.
Looking at how the draft unfolded, it's easy to see why the Jags waited until Round 5 to address the pass rush. Myles Murphy and Nolan Smith, two prospects they might have kept an eye on, were drafted near the end of the first round. With their top options off the board, they chose to focus on upgrading other position groups.
On the other hand, there were many edge defenders available in the second round that could have given the Jags' pass rush a huge boost. One of them was Notre Dame defensive end Isiah Foskey, who went to the New Orleans Saints at No. 40.
Foskey has the strength, size, and athleticism to get after the quarterback in the NFL. He showed how dominant he can be when he became the first Fighting Irish in school history to register 10 sacks or more in back-to-back seasons. And the fact that he's better suited to rush the passer from a standup position would have made him a fit in Jacksonville behind Allen and Walker.
