No. 2 stock down player in Jaguars training camp: Tyler Shatley, OG

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Jaguars ahead of the 2023 season is the left guard position. Incumbent Ben Bartch dislocated his knee last year and was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to start training camp. Bartch may or may not be ready for the season opener but if he's not good to go, the Jags could then roll with Tyler Shatley. There's only one issue though.

Shatley missed Day 8 of practice with a minor medical issue. This shouldn't be a reason for concern, as Shatley doesn't need as many reps as other players to get ready for the regular season. Having said that, his absence will pave the way for rookie Cooper Hodges, who's gotten praise from Phil Rauscher, and Cole Van Lanen to show what they got.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing when you take into account that Hodges and Van Lanen need to practice as much as possible but if either one flashes potential, the team's brass could choose to roll with them.

Even though Shatley gives the Jaguars crucial depth on the interior offensive line, he's 32 and entering the last year of the two-year deal he signed last offseason, which could prompt the coaching staff to give either Hodges or Van Lanen an extended look in the upcoming days.

Then again, keeping Shatley around for one more season makes sense, especially when you take into account that the Jaguars lack ideal depth at the position.
Also working in his favor is that he won't need much time to get back on track and pick up where he left off once he returns.
