3 pending free agents the Jacksonville Jaguars could surprisingly re-sign in 2024

• The Jaguars will need to reinforce the roster next offseason

• They are in dire need of playmakers

• But it would also make sense to re-sign these 3 veterans

Things haven't gone the way the Jacksonville Jaguars expected in 2023. Following a trip to the playoffs, they seemed poised to build on last year's success. However, they're 8-7 and at risk of missing the playoffs if they don't right the ship.

Whether the Jags advance to the playoffs, it's clear they'll need to restock their roster next offseason. They mainly kept last year's core intact in hopes they would make a deep playoff plush but their lack of inactivity has come back to haunt them.

Looking back, they should've kept hoarding playmakers, instead of solely expecting their young players to develop. Now, the Jaguars find themselves having to fix several holes in 2024.

Jacksonville will need to dip their toes in the open market to address some of those needs, but it would also be a good idea to bring back a couple of core contributors. In particular, the team's brass should re-sign these three free agents to have continuity in 2024.

3. Angelo Blackson, defensive end

Angelo Blackson has had somewhat of a nomadic career in the NFL but he's become a key rotation piece for the Jaguars in 2023. While he's never going to put up big numbers, he's been a solid rotational piece. A fourth-round draft pick by the Houston Texans in 2016, Blackson has seen lots of playing time this season, maybe more than the Jags originally intended.

This was mostly due to defensive end DaVon Hamilton starting the 2023 season on Injured Reserve and rookie Tyler Lacy not being ready for a bigger role. While Hamilton should be fully healthy and Lacy is expected to make progress next year, it wouldn't be shocking to see Blackson return. He would probably get a smaller role but having him back would ensure the team has depth in the defensive trenches.
