3 former Jacksonville Jaguars we'll be glad are gone, 2 we'll wish stayed in 2023
2. Player the Jacksonville Jaguars wish had stayed in 2023: Marvin Jones, WR
Just like Shaquill Griffin, wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. arrived in Jacksonville in 2021. A fifth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013, Jones had spent the previous four seasons with the Detroit Lions before signing with the Jaguars.
The former Cal Golden Bear became a locker room leader right off the bat and was named team captain before what turned out to be a long season and not because it now had 17 games instead of 16 but because of Urban Meyer's presence.
Dj Chark Jr. was expected to become the Jaguars' No. 1 receiver in 2021 but after fracturing his ankle in Week 4, that role fell on Jones' shoulders. Despite the fact that opposing defenses were able to devote extra resources to stopping Jones, he managed to haul in a 73 catches for 832 yards with four receptions.
Jones' production dipped last year due to the arrival of Zay Jones and Christian Kirk. But even though he saw fewer targets his way in 2021, he was still able to catch 46 receptions for 529 yards with three touchdowns.
Having said that, Jones' impact with the Jags went beyond what he did on the football field. He was one of the players that stood up to Meyer's questionable ways, which is something he should be commended for wherever he goes.
