Two days into the tampering period, the Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to address their biggest need, the interior defensive line. This is understandable when you take into account that they have limited cap space. Moreover, it looks like the team's brass isn't interested in making a splash signing and would instead hunt for bargains.

As free agency progresses, the talent pool will dry, but there still be plenty of players available, especially after teams make roster cuts to get cap relief. In fact, general manager James Gladstone should set his sights on one the Carolina Pathers just released.

The Jaguars may want to target A'Shawn Robinson after the Panthers released him

Just before the official start of free agency on March 11, the Panthers released A'Shawn Robinson, creating $10.5 million in salary cap next season. This savings will come in handy after Carolina signed linebacker Devin Lloyd and pass rusher Jaelan Phillips.

A second-round pick in 2026, Robinsons played four seasons for the Detroit Lions before bolting for the Los Angeles Rams in 2020. After four years in LA, he spent a season with the New York Giants. The former Alabama standout signed a three-year deal with the Panthers after his stint with Big Blue.

Although Robinson was a stud against the run, taking on double teams to allow his teammates to make plays, the Panthers were dealing with cap constraints. Had they had a bit more of space, they might've kept him, but he now has the chance to sign with any team he pleases.

Why it makes sense for the Jaguars to pursue A'Shawn Robinson

Aside from Arik Armstead, the Jaguars don't have much talent at defensive tackle. DaVon Hamilton excels against the run, but isn't a threat as a pass rusher. Maason Smith is also in the mix, but he's coming off a disappointing seson. That could lead the team's brass to look for help at the position.

John Franklin-Myers is off the market after signing with the Tennessee Titans. With him out of the mix, the Jags could attempt to trade for Jalen Carter. They've reportedly shown interest in him. But if they're unable to acquire him, A'Shawn Robinson would be a solid alternative.

As noted before, the Panthers cut Robinson not rather because they needed cap relief. In fact, he only missed one game during his stint in Charlotte, so health isn't an issue either. Of course, it may come down to what kind of contract he's looking for, but the Jaguars may not have to pay retail for him.

Going after A'Shawn Robinson is just one of many routes the Jaguars have to fortify their interior trenches. And if they don't find any entincing options in free agency, they can then turn their attention to the draft.
