The Jacksonville Jaguars are keeping the competition at running back wide open, and understandably so. The coaching staff is high on sophomore Bhayshul Tuten but won't just hand him the starting job. Similarly, Chris Rodriguez and LeQuint Allen Jr. have to earn roles, but the Jags appear to feel good about their backfield.
Sure, you could make the case that Jacksonville lacks experience at running back, but that doesn't make it a weakness. Nevertheless, several analysts think it would be a good idea to bring in a veteran option. This led an NFL analyst to pitch a trade for a five-time Pro Bowl nod.
The Jaguars are being urged to trade for Alvin Kamara
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report drew up a list of four trade destinations for Alvin Kamara. He included the Jaguars, arguing that the 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year could be an upgrade over the unproven Bhayshul Tuten.
"Tuten is projected to emerge as the Jaguars' RB1, but the sophomore back didn't inspire much confidence that he's ready for the job during his NFL season," Kay wrote. "He may have scored seven total touchdowns as a rookie, but Tuten only mustered 307 yards across his 83 carries—a meager 3.7 yards per carry average."
Kay continued, "Given the still-present fumbling concerns that led Tuten to fall to the fourth round of the 2025 draft, it's too soon to entrust a major role to the 23-year-old. Kamara would be a far better choice to start in Jacksonville."
Keep in mind that this isn't the first time Jacksonville is brougth up as a landing spot for Kamara. With that out of the way, Kay makes some valid points on paper. Tuten lost the fumble two times in 2025 after logging a combined nine lost fumbles in his last two seasons at Virginia Tech. Couple that with the fact that he averaged fewer yards per carry than Travis Etienne in 2025, and he suddenly doesn't look like an appealing option to start at running back.
However, head coach Liam Coen downplayed Tuten's fumble issues, pointing out that it wasn't a recurrent problem. Moreover, his low yard-per-carry average stemmed from the fact that Paulsboro, New Jersey native got the ball in more short-yardage situations than Etienne.
But if there wasn't any doubt that Tuten can be a three-down running back, he quelled concerns when he toted the rock four times for 51 yards against the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs. Understandably, the coaching staff is high on him heading into Year 2.

With Etienne out of the mix, Tuten will get more targets in the passing game. Moreover, he'll get to showcase his blazing speed in outside runs. When you add it all up, trading for Alvin Kamara simply doesn't make any sense. Like at all.
The Jaguars are confident Bhayshul Tuten can be RB1
The Jaguars let Travis Etienne walk in free agency because they're confident that Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen can fill the void left by his exit. If the team's brass brought in another running back, it would show that Jacksonville is second-guessing the decision.
This doesn't mean that the Jaguars won't bring in Alvin Kamara or anyone else. After all, injuries can happen at any point of the offseason, or maybe they aren't thrilled about their options at running back. But that doesn't seem to be the case.
Liam Coen heaped praise on the current group, especially Tuten and Allen. But if any of them take a step back, undrafted free agent J'Mari Taylor, free-agent acquisition Chris Rodriguez, veteran Ameer Abdullah, and DeeJay Dallas are in the mix.
Simply put, the Jaguars have no shortage of options at running back, even if Bhayshul Tuten fails to take the next step. So, barring anything unexpected, a trade for Alvin Kamara seems unlikely.
