One storyline surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason that hasn't gotten nearly as much attention is Trevor Lawrence's health. It's easy to forget, with how many changes the Jags have undergone in the offseason since the end of 2024, that he's coming off a season-ending injury. However, new head coach Liam Coen recently brought up the subject and provided an update on No. 16's recovery.

Coen met with the local media at the 2025 NFL Owners Meeting and said that that Lawrence is doing well, pointing out that he's

"He's getting better. He's throwing a little bit," Coen responded when asked how Lawrence's recovery is going. "He'll be able to get going in the spring and be able to throw a little bit more, but, man, he's getting better and better each day."

Based on Coen's comments, the former Clemson Tiger hasn't had any setbacks in his recovery from a labrum injury. He originally got hurt in the Philadelphia Eagles game in Week 9 but wasn't shut down for the year until Week 13. Lawrence suited up for that game but was knocked out when Azeez Al-Shaair laid a dirty hit on him. He got shoulder surgery done not long after that and missed the rest of the year.

Earlier in the same conversation, Coen was asked what the best way to describe Lawrence is. His response: Mellow (but in a good way).

"I think pretty mellow in a good way, though. You feel a sense of urgency from him, without it sounding like a panic. He knows, he's confident, he loves to play. He doesn't want to be hurt. He doesn't want to be not in the game like that. That means a lot to him. And so when you start there, and that's the floor of the conversations, you feel so good about where it's going to go because it's honest. You can feel it from him," Coen said.

Coen continued, "He's hungry, though, I would say that for sure. He's putting in time right now on his own, without any sort of, he's doing it on his own, maybe twice a day right now, doing stuff to help him get better. I think the fans should know that's this guy's work ethic. That's the way he does things."

Lawrence might still have a long way to go in his recovery. The good news is that he still has ample time to recover before the regular season starts. Moreover, offseason work won't ramp up until training camp in July, so he doesn't have to rush his rehab.

Below is Coen's full exchange with the press comments. His remarks about Lawrence start at the 23:25 mark.

The Jaguars need Trevor Lawrence to stay healthy in 2024

Keeping Trevor Lawrence up right will be a top priority for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. The former Clemson Tiger hasn't had adequate protection throughout most of his career and that's played a role in him getting hurt so often. This was especially evident last year but it's been a recurring thing.

Aside from getting sacked a concerning 112 times the past four years —an average of 33 per season— Lawrence missed eight games due to a myriad of ailments and has played through injuries several more. That, in turn, has hindered his development and held Jacksonville back.

Of course, the Jags are trying to improve the roster, so they won't have to depend solely on Lawrence to win games. Having said that, their chances of competing in the AFC South and potentially making a playoff role will lean on him. That's why it will be pivotal to ensure he's got the best possible protection. If they do, they're chances of quickly turning things around will increase considerably.
