After failing to make the playoffs in consecutive years, the Jacksonville Jaguars cleaned house and replenished the roster in the offseason. However, all the changes they made won't matter if Trevor Lawrence doesn't bounce back and play like a top-10 quarterback.
Based on a recent survey, it doesn't look like executives across the NFL think he will.
Trevor Lawrence was snubbed from a franchise quarterback poll
Jeff Howie of The Athletic posted an annual poll in which 31 coaches and executives answered several questions. One of them was, Which three quarterbacks would you take if you were starting a franchise from scratch?. Age and contracts were taken into consideration, and Trevor Lawrence only got one vote.
That's right, No. 16 only got one of 91 possible votes, which goes on to show that league perception about him is at an all-time low. Heck, rival quarterback Cam Ward and sophomore Bo Nix also got a vote each.
Meanwhile, Josh Allen led the poll with 22 votes, and Patrick Mahomes was second with 19. That's not particularly surprising, as they turned the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs, respectively, into powerhouses.

The Jaguars are confident Trevor Lawrence can take his game to the next level
Let's get it out of the way. Trevor Lawrence's steep tumble in the survey is deserved. Sure, he didn't have the best supporting cast or adequate coaching the past two years. That said, you can't expect a quarterback to be successful unless everything around him is perfect. Moreover, his mechanics and decision-making in 2024 were sloppy, so he's not precisely free of fault. Similarly, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has struggled to stay healthy.
You could argue that there's a random element to injuries, and players don't willingly get them. You would be right, but availability is the most important ability in football, and if you can't take the football, it won't matter how talented you are.
Simply put, Lawrence hasn't done enough to get more votes in The Athletic's or any other survey. Sure, he played like a top 10 quarterback in 2022, but that was three years ago, which was eons in football. The good news is that the former Clemson Tiger is in a position to buck the trend.
Under head coach Liam Coen, Lawrence has shown notable improvement. The duo has been working on his fundamentals and doing a better job of going through his reads. On top of that, he now has a much better arsenal of weapons, led by Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter, and will have enough time to find them behind a beefed-up offensive line.
But wait, there's more! Lawrence says he's the healthiest he's been in years ahead of Week 1, which is notable because he spent the offseason recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in 2025. When you add it all up, he's in a prime position to bounce back.
Now, Trevor Lawrence must take the field and repay the Jaguars' trust in him. He'll have a prime opportunity to once again re-join the top-10 quarterback conversation with a hot start to the 2025 season.
