The Jacksonville Jaguars realized that they needed to revamp Trevor Lawrence's arsenal of weapons, so they added Dyami Brown in free agency. They shouldn't stop there. After all, the Jags will have the chance to make further upgrades to their wide receiver corps in the 2025 NFL Draft. If they skip the position at No. 5, Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus has a compelling suggestion.

Cameron drew up a list of the best Day 2 fits for every NFL team and chose Savion Williams for Jacksonville, noting that the former TCU Horned Frog would give an ideal complement for 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist Brian Thomas Jr.

"After sending off their stable of pass catchers in free agency, the Jaguars need a complementary component to the passing game to pair with Brian Thomas Jr. Williams is a big-bodied target who possesses strong hands and consistency to finish contested catches (88.9% contested-catch rate in 2024)."

At 6'5" and 225 pounds, Williams has great size and speed for the position, having run the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds at the NFL scouting combine. He uses his large frame to try to reel in contested throws. That said, the 2025 Honorable Mention All-Big 12 had eight drops last year and often catches passes with his body rather than his hands. Couple that with the fact that his route-running needs refining, and it might be a bit of a risk to take him early in Round 2.

Nevertheless, Williams' upside may be too good to pass up, and if the Jags don't draft him, another team might. Then again, there's also a chance he'll slide to Round 3, where Dame Parson of the Bleacher Report scouting department expects him to go. At that point of the draft, he could offer better value.

In Jacksonville, Williams would join a receiving unit that includes the aforementioned Thomas, Brown, Parker Washington, Gabe Davis, Austin Trammell, and Joshua Cephus III

The Jaguars will have options aside of Savion Williams on Day 2 of the NFL Draft

Savion Williams would make sense in Round 2 if the Jacksonville Jaguars bolster another position at No. 5. Aside from wide receiver, the offensive and defensive lines, and cornerback appear to be their biggest needs ahead of the draft. On the other hand, Williams won't be their only option.

Jaylen Royals and Matthew Golden will give the Jaguars alternatives in the second round. Heck, Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN had them choosing Emeka Egbuka at No. 36 in his latest mock.

Granted, Egbuka would be more of a Christian Kirk replacement in the slot, whereas Williams can line up anywhere across the football field. Either way, the Jaguars may not want to bet on a "raw" prospect with amazing upside so early in the draft and might instead opt for a more polished player.

Moreover, there's no guarantee the front office will draft a receiver in Rounds 1 or 2 of the draft. Leaving aside that they may have bigger needs, whoever they draft — unless it's someone of Travis Hunter caliber — won't get much playing time early on.

For the sake of the argument, let's say Jacksonville does draft Williams. He'll probably be stuck behind Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, Gabe Davis, and Parker Washington. Best-case scenario, he competes with either Davis and Washington for playing time and sees a few targets as a rookie.

The truth is that it's hard to tell what kind of strategy the Jaguars will run on Draft Day. Will they go with players who produce at the collegiate level, or will they take a flyer on players with intriguing physical traits but may otherwise be projects? If the team's brass chooses the latter, Savion Williams should most definitely deserve consideration.
