After finishing 4-13 in 2024, the Jacksonville Jaguars were expected to experience growing pains under first-year head coach Liam. They most definitely have dealt with adversity this season but have managed to come through: Following their 34-20 win over the Denver Broncos, the Jags sit at 11-4 with two weeks left. Moreover, they're becoming one of the most fearsome teams in the NFL.
But what exactly is the reason behind their turnaround? Liam Coen is most definitely the engine that's powered the Jags to a winning record, but it's not just his leadership or overall knowledge of Xs and Os. The first-year head coach is also molding the team around his personality, and his latest remarks are proof of it.
Liam Coen doesn't care if the Jaguars aren't getting respect
Following the win over the Broncos, Liam Coen met with the local media. When asked about whether the victory changes the narrative, he made it abundantly clear that neither he nor his team does.
"We don't care, you know, we really don't care," Coen told reporters. "You know, we really don't care about the narrative. You know, it's, I'm sorry to say that, but it's only helping us. So I want the narrative to keep coming."
Q: "Do you feel like this is a win that can change the narrative?"

This isn't particularly surprising when you take into account that he clapped back at Broncos head coach Sean Payton after stating that Jacksonville plays in a small market. But wait, there's more! His players are taking on his personality. Trevon Walker met with team reporter Bucky Brooks and stated that he doesn't want any bandwagoners.
"We don't want them. Everyone in this locker room on the Juguars team, even upstairs, we know everybody's probably going to try to hop on this bandwagon now, but we don't want anybody," Travon Walker said after the game, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN. "They can stay where they're at. It's us. It's all about the Jags. "F--- everybody but us. Excuse my language, dad, grandmamma, but f--- everybody but us."
And that's the kind of attitude the Jaguars have adopted since Coen took over. They don't care whether you respect them or not. Either way, they'll make you pay for overlooking them. As DiRocco noted on Twitter, the whole team sounds salty, and that's helping them win games.
The Jaguars are winning with Liam Coen at the helm
Of course, attitude is important, but none of that would matter if the Jaguars weren't winning football games. They are, and they're doing it in a dominant fashion. Since their BYE, they haven't scored less than 25 points in a week. They've crossed the 30-point mark five times and scored 48 points against the New York Jets. Simply put, the offense is clicking.
Similarly, the defense has given up 20 points or fewer five times since the BYE. Anthony Campanile's unit currently ranks 10th in points allowed and 13th in yards surrendered. Moreover, they have the second most takeaways in the NFL.
Now, the Jaguars are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, and their recent success has fans believing that maybe, just maybe, they could make a deep playoff push and achieve big things in Year 1 of the Liam Coen era.
