The Jacksonville Jaguars swung an under-the-radar trade on Wednesday morning, sending a 2027 sixth-round pick to the New York Giants in exchange for veteran guard Daniel Faalele. The trade may not have been a blockbuster move, but it could prove to be pivotal for the Jags this season.

Head coach Liam Coen certainly saw the need for Faalele. He addressed the media shortly after the trade, emphasizing how important the guard's experience will be for Jacksonville.

"Yeah, just continuing to bring depth, and guys that have played meaningful reps in this league. That's something that you can't have enough of," Coen told reporters. "We came into the camp with 16 [offensive linemen] and got down to about nine the other day.

Coen continued, "And so when you have some of those things occur, and you want to continue to find guys that have done it, guys that have played in this league at a high level. He's got some big size, and I'm looking forward to get to know him. But the experience is really what matters."

Daniel Faalele provides the veteran presence Liam Coen needed on the Jaguars' offensive line

The Jaguars already had a few promising young players on the interior of the offensive line. Emmanuel Pregnon, Jonah Monheim, and Wyatt Milum could each be strong depth pieces this season.

Pregnon has been especially encouraging this offseason, capping off a strong training camp with an impressive preseason debut. He could work his way into the starting lineup by the end of the season.

But each of those three depth pieces was drafted within the last two years. Monheim is the most experienced player of the group, and he only has 207 offensive snaps under his belt. The group lacked a veteran presence.

Faalele solves that problem. He has played in 66 games for the Baltimore Ravens over the last four years and held down the starting right guard spot for each of the last two seasons. On top of that, the former Minnesota Golden Gopher gives the offensive line much-needed depth in light of injuries.

The 26-year-old is one of the biggest players in the league, standing at six-foot-eight and weighing 380 pounds. He has struggled in pass protection in recent years, allowing at least 30 pressures in each of the last two seasons. Still, he's a force in the run game and should be a reliable player for Jacksonville.

Coen made it clear that Daniel Faalele isn't coming in to compete for a starting job. He offers depth and experience for the Jaguars' front. If the veteran guard can make the offensive line as a whole more secure in 2026, he will be well worth the 2027 draft pick that the Jaguars gave up to get him.
