The Jacksonville Jaguars hit the reset button in the offseason, firing Doug Pederson and bringing in Liam Coen to be their next head coach. Coen, who served as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator in 2024, is hoping to bring that explosive offense to Jacksonville and he's been busy putting his staff together for his first year at the helm.
A not-so-popular name that Coen and the Jags hired to help out the offense is Shane Waldron, who will be the Jaguars' passing game coordinator. Hearing this news wasn't something that made Jags fans all that happy considering Waldron's recent track record.

Waldron spent three years with the Seahawks and had a reputation of not being able to adjust his game plans once the defenses figured it out and were able to stop whatever his offense was doing. When he left the Seahawks to join the Bears in 2024, things continued to go poorly with Waldron as the OC, as Caleb Williams and the Bears offense looked downright deplorable.
Things got so bad with Waldron as the offensive coordinator that he was relieved of his duties just nine games into his Bears tenure. Chicago was ranked 30th in total offense at the time of Waldron's firing, proving that he didn't have a clue what he was doing.
Yet, even with all of the evidence pointing to Waldron not being a good OC, Liam Coen clearly sees something that he likes about him. He's not the least bit concerned about Waldron's previous issues following him to Jacksonville either.
Liam Coen shoots down worry over Shane Waldron’s recent coaching failure
This is obviously what you expect Coen to say considering he brought Waldron in. If he liked the guy enough to hire him and bring him on his staff, there's got to be a good reason as to why that is. This isn't a new thing with Coen either, as he's already shown that he wants guys with experience on his staff.
That being said, Jags fans still have every right to be concerned with Waldron coming in. The good news is that he's not the offensive coordinator for Jacksonville (that honor goes to Grant Udinski) so hopefully his presence doesn't hurt the offense at all.
