Although the Jacksonville Jaguars raised eyebrows with some of their selections in Rounds 2 and 3 of the NFL Draft, they most definitely committed larceny when they selected Oregon offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon with the 88th overall selection.

The former Oregon Duck has ample starting experience and has lined up at both offensive guard spots. That kind of versatility will come in handy in Duval and will allow him to compete for a featured role from the get-go.

But leaving aside that Pregnon somehow slid to Round 3, why exactly did the Jaguars draft him? Liam Coen came up with three words to explain the decision.

The Jaguars got lots of Ass and Mass in Emmanuel Pregnon

Following the end of the third round, the Jaguars brass met with the local media. When asked about Emmanuel Pregnon, Liam Coen simply stated that he stated that the rookie hog molly provided ample flexibility, calling him all "Ass and Mass."

Here's Coen's full quote. It starts at the 7:48 mark.

"I mean, the nice thing is, we always said, since being in LA and 22' in that tough year, that we're never going to put ourselves in a position to not have depth up front and to not have great competition depth," Coen responded when asked how the arrival of Pregnon affects sophomore Wyatt Milum. "For what it does for Wyatt, I'm not sure. I mean, Wyatt's got a ton of flexibility for him to be able to go out, kick out at tackle, and play on the inside at guard."

Coen continued, "So the nice thing is, we got a lot of depth and competition coming up for obviously, this being a little bit more of a learning phase throughout the spring, that way you're not going to be able to probably see maybe what Wyatt's best traits are with a helmet on and shorts or same thing, maybe withEmmanuel. We have to wait till training camp to let that stuff play itself out. But shoot, I know that in the last two years, getting two interior linemen with a little bit of flag out of 323, 15 plus that have that ass and mass that we're looking for. That's helpful to
the cause."

What are the Jaguars getting in Emmanuel Pregnon?

So far, the Emmanuel Pregnon pick has gotten widespread praise, with Justin Melo of Sports Illustrated calling him the biggest steal of Round 3. B&T's own Austin Swain echoed the sentiment, pointing out that he couldn't believe he was still available at No. 88.

Ezra Cleveland and Patrick Mekari are the starters at left guard and right guard, respectively. Wyatt Milum could challenge one of them or compete for the primary backup role behind him. But with Pregnon in the mix, the Jaguars acquired plenty of depth and flexibility, which will come in handy in case the injury bug strikes.

The bottom line is that the Jaguars got a player who, worst-case scenario, will provide valuable depth, and at best, he'll become a mainstay on the offensive line.
