The Jacksonville Jaguars will be making tweaks in the upcoming months in order to put together the best possible 53-man roster. That means cutting players who don't fit their vision or bringing in reinforcements to bolster certain position groups. Their latest move will most definitely allow them to do the latter.

The Jags announced that they've placed rookie wide receiver Alex Bullock on the Retired/Reserve list after signing him as an undrafted free agent in April. The move now paves the way for the team's brass to make a swing before the regular season begins.

Bullock hauled in 71 receptions for 936 yards with five touchdowns at South Dakota State last year. Before that, he had spent three seasons at Nebraska.

What can the Jaguars do after placing Alex Bullock on the Retired List?

Bullock was a long shot to make the roster. From an outside perspective, it's hard to tell why he chose to hang up the cleats. What's certain is that placing him on the Retired list leaves a roster spot open. The Jaguars could most definitely use it to address a position need.

Jacksonville has been urged to add another running back to the backfield alongside Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez. Then again, the front office just signed Ameer Abdullah, so it can probably take care of another position.

Perhaps the Jags could add a No. 3 pass rusher behind Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen. Cameron Jordan and Jadeveon Clowley are available, and both of them remain productive. On the other hand, Matt Bowen of ESPN suggests Jacksonville goes after Bobby Wagner to round out the linebacker corps after Devin Lloyd bolted in free agency.

When you factor in that the Jaguars have a bit over $10 million in space, they can most definitely use Bullock's spot to strengthen the roster.

The Jaguars could also pull off a trade after the Alex Bullock roster move

Another possibility would be to trade for help. Back in free agency, the Jaguars opted to mostly stay put, mainly focusing on re-signing their homegrown talent. The only external free agent they signed was running back Chris Rodriguez. On top of that, general manager James Gladstone stated that he could use some of the compensatory picks the team got to make a few deals after the draft if needed.

Jacksonville will tentatively get three picks (fourth, fifth, and sixth-round selections) after losing running back Travis Etienne, cornerback Greg Newsome, and linebacker Devin Lloyd in free agency. They could use them, along with their picks in 2027 to make a bold trade.

Nick Hergig has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the offseason. He could turbocharge the pass rush and turn it into one of the most fearsome ones in the whole NFL.

The downside of trading for him — aside from the assets it would take to land him — is that the Jags would have to give him a new deal, which would in turn hinder their ability to re-sign wide receiver Parker Washington and tight end Brenton Strange, something that vice president of football operations Tony Boselli has made it clear is a priority.

This makes a bold trade a less feasible opportunity. Nevertheless, the Jaguars gave themselves lots of flexibility by opening a roster spot when they placed Alex Bulllock on the Reserve list.
