When the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to select second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, they already had a plan in place to ensure he played two-ways in the NFL. So far, their strategy has worked, and the latest development in a mock game puts the reigning Heisman Trophy winner closer of achieving his goal of playing corner and receiver for the Jags.
Following Day 7 of training camp, Jacksonville held a scrimmage, or a mock game as the team called it. So far, there have been many intriguing plays, but the highlight has probably been Hunter switching to defense after starting practice on offense, as Alessandra Pontbriand of News4Jax reported. Other outlets confirmed the news.

This is noteworthy because he's been swiching back and forth between offense and defense every day. This marks the first time he practices on both sides in training camp, and it's the next milestone on his quest to play two ways.
At the beginning of training camp, head coach Liam Coen told the local media that the organization had a deliberate plan in place to maximize Hunter's practice time. The strategy is at full display in training camp.

Travis Hunter is closer to playing two ways after the Jaguars mock game in training camp
The Jaguars began Travis Hunter's onboarding on offense because of the nuances of playing wide receiver. He only got reps on offense early in the offseason program, but began to practice at cornerback at mandatory minicamp. Then, the West Palm Beach native started switching sides.
Now, Hunter is closer to playing two-way something he made it clear he wanted to do during the draft process. In fact, he was so adamant about the idea the he said he wouldn't go to a team that limited to one side. Fortunately, he landed in Jacksonville.
Of course, it's understandable why analysts and coached wouldn't think it was going to be possible. After all, no player in the modern NFL era has achieved the feat. Sure, Deion Sanders played two ways at different points of his career but never full time. Charles Davis of NFL on CBS Sports was among those who weren't so sure he could play two ways. Ditto former NFL coach Eric Mangini.
Just recently, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports said that during the draft process he had reservations about Hunter's intention to play corner and receiver in the pros, but after watching him practice and talking to the Jaguars' brass, he thinks he can come as close as possible of pulling it off.
The bottom line is that Hunter is quickly turning skeptics into believes, as he's closer to making his debut as a two-way player in the NFL. Looking back, it's easy to understand why the Jaguars didn't hesitate to trade for him.
