As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepared to take on the San Francisco 49ers, their defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh, made a baffling accusation: he said the Jaguars had created a way to steal signals to give them an advantage. While he acknowledged that the Jaguars aren't doing anything illegal, he still insinuated that it was at least somewhat unfair.
"Whether it's people from the sideline or whether it's our individual hand signals, whatever nugget they can find, they're going to catch it, and they always happen to find themselves in good situations based on the coverage and show the way," Saleh said. "And there's nothing illegal about it. And I'm not suggesting that it's just, you can tell that they've got a can system that's getting them into a very advantageous position multiple times during the course of the game."
Suffice it to say, head coach Liam Coen was not impressed, and refused to acknowledge the statement or give the accusation any credibility. But that doesn't mean it didn't bother him, or the rest of the Jaguars - they clearly went into the game with an axe to grind. And that extra motivation paid off; the Jaguars emerged victorious in a game many expected them to lose.
49ers head coach makes a shocking statement after brutal loss
After the game ended and both teams exited the field, it was clear that - despite taking the high road in front of reporters - Coen was angry, and while it's not known (yet) what he said, he clearly didn't hold back when he saw Saleh.
Ultimately, both coaches had to be restrained as they headed towards their respective locker rooms.

After that, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about the exchange - and his response was nothing short of shocking. A reporter noted that the two had words, and that Coen was clearly still angry over the sign-stealing accusations, and asked Shanahan if he was surprised that Coen was upset.
"No, tried to clear it up, but I didn't see what happened, so I'm not sure," Shanahan said. "I don't think he should be that sensitive about it, but it is what it is. Not too worried about it."

“I didn’t see what happened so I’m not sure, but he [Liam] shouldn’t be so sensitive.” pic.twitter.com/fbrgICdAyX
Coen shouldn't be so sensitive? It's hard to imagine the sheer and utter gall one must have to make that statement, after one of your coaches 1) accuses a team of sign-stealing and 2) your team then loses the game.
Maybe Kyle Shanahan should focus less on running their mouths, and more on figuring out how to win games.
