Josh Allen's remarks after Jaguars joint practice cause unexpected stir

The Jacksonville Jaguars had two joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They outright dominated the first one, with Baker Mayfield going as far as saying he wasn't sure the Bucs would have won if it had been a full game. Josh Hines-Allen was certainly pleased with the work the Jags put in and took to Twitter to talk about it.

Hines-Allen acknowledged that the Tampa Bay defensive front had a good day but believes his team was better.

"I keep seeing these one on one rushes from Tampa bay, those good rushes but the way we was doing them boys on the other field. MAN!!!, Hines-Allen wrote.

Nobody will dispute that the Jacksonville defensive line wreaked havoc. However, Hines-Allen probably didn't expect that he would get lots of pushback in the comment section.

One look at the comment section will show you that Buccaneers fans blasted Hines-Allen for his lack of accolades and for boasting about a joint practice. They also brought up the fact that Jacksonville has never won the Super Bowl, whereas the Bucs have won two.

In Hines-Allen's defense, he has no control over the fact that the Jaguars haven't made the playoffs in back-to-back years since 1999. Similarly, he wasn't responsible for hiring Urban Meyer or dismantling the roster to hoard draft picks in 2020.

On the other hand, you could argue that Hines-Allen has no right to talk about the Jags outplaying Tampa Bay in a joint practice, but that's football. Players like to have fun, and he's focusing on the moment.

There's no rule that forbids you from talking about beating your opponent just because his team has a better record or more Super Bowl wins. Hines-Allen had a good day against the Buccaneers and simply pointed it out.

The Buccaneers defense was good, but the Jaguars were better

Credit where credit is due: The Buccaneers defensive linemen showed out in the joint practice: Vita Vae, rookie Ruben Bain Jr., and Calijah Kancey ate on their one-on-one reps.

But the Jaguars were better. Josh Hines-Allen alone had three sacks. The Jacksonville defense registered an interception (another one was called back) and a forced fumble. Although the Bucs made a few plays, they were manhandled. But you don't see Baker Mayfield talking about Tampa Bay winning two Super Bowls, or anything of that sort, because he was underwhelming in practice.

Of course, it was only a joint practice, and as such, it doesn't count in the standings. However, it also gives you an idea of where the Jaguars are ahead of the regular season. And based on how things played out, they're ready to defend their AFC South.
