The Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the surprises of the 2025 season, and veteran linebacker Devin Lloyd was one of the surprises of the year as well. In his fourth season. The former Utah Ute had a breakout year, recording 81 tackles, six for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and five interceptions that he returned for 135 yards and a touchdown. The career year earned him a Second-team All-Pro spot, and it’s also going to earn him a lot of money.

Lloyd’s productive season came at the perfect time, as he’s set to be a free agent this offseason. Jaguars fans are hoping he re-signs with the team and builds off this season, but some recent comments from Jacksonville’s general manager, James Gladstone makes it seem like the franchise may not be as committed to Lloyd as fans are.

The Jaguars are seemingly bracing to the possibility of losing Devin Lloyd

On Wednesday, James Gladstone was asked what is the evaluation of Lloyd in this contract year. The first-year general manager was effusive in his praise for the linebacker, specifically highlighting how he was an All-Pro linebacker who was also playing hard on special teams. Ultimately, Gladstone thought it was a really cool development, but was noncommittal on Lloyd’s future with the team.

"How cool was that, right? Such an impactful season," Gladstone told reporters (16:27 mark). "What he meant to our end result was certainly notable. The way in which he operated on a daily, weekly basis was really cool to watch and observe. He committed himself to be in the best version. The connection between him the coaching staff was real. He was being deployed in the right ways. He felt confident in the ways that he was doing it from both defense and special teams."

Gladstone continued, "You're talking about a guy that is playing at an all pro level on defense, but is running down on kickoff every time we score, and making plays for us so extremely happy for Devin and his his production this season and finding real footing in a way that aligned with what he knew he could be look forward to working through the offseason process with our coaching staff and everyone else to determine what's best for everybody and seeing if there's something to be done."

James Gladstone and Jaguars are noncommittal on Devin Lloyd

After praising Devin Lloyd, the general manager said he was going to work through the offseason process with the coaching staff and everyone else to determine what’s best, and see if something needs to be done.

That’s much different from saying something like re-signing our All-Pro linebacker is a priority for us this offseason. Going with such an open-ended answer makes it seem like the team won’t mind letting him walk.

It’s extremely early, and it’s possible that the Jaguars haven’t even worked through their offseason plans yet. They could ultimately sign Devin Lloyd to a long-term deal and keep him in Jacksonville. Fans aren’t optimistic that will happen, though, based on James Gladstone’s comments.
