Even though the Jacksonville Jaguars did a good job of raising the roster floor in the offseason, they weren't able to address all the needs. One position they must focus on next year is cornerback.
Although the Jags will get Travis Hunter back from a season-ending surgery, Greg Newsome and Montaric Brown are slated to become free agents. They could try to re-sign one of them, but they will need to bolster their secondary group. Bleacher Report just made a compelling suggestion to get it done.
The Jaguars are being urged to draft Davison Igbinosun
The B/R scouting department took a look at every NFL team's biggest needs. They chose corner for the Jags and suggest that they draft Davison Igbinosun to take care of it, pointing out that they'll need depth at the position even if Travis Hunter does play two ways in 2026. Below's the skinny.
"With that question answered, the need for a cornerback might slide down the Jaguars' board," B/R wrote. "Still, Hunter is going to be a part-time player, and the Jaguars need another corner to fit their system."
"Davison Igbinosun is going to be a popular target in that tier. He has the size that NFL scouts covet and he's shown massive improvement in his most recent season with Ohio State. Jalon Kilgore would also be an intriguing fit for his versatility along with Hunter," B/R wrote.
B/R goes on to cite draft analyst Daniel Harms, who calls Igbinosun a "cover versatile defender who can see route combinations quickly." In his report, Harms gave the Ohio State Buckeye a second-round grade, noting that he's a physical force on the outside in coverage and run defense. On top of that, he's one of the most improved defensive backs in the nation.
A four-star prospect out of high school, Igbinosun attended Ole Miss before transferring to Ohio State. For his collegiate career, he's logged 141 tackles, 19 passes defensed, and two interceptions.
Why would it make sense for the Jaguars to draft Davison Igbinosun
The Jaguars gave up their first-round pick in 2026 as part of the trade to select Travis Hunter. They still have their second and three third-round selections, so the cupboard isn't fully bare. Sure, most of the top prospects will be off the board by the time Jacksonville is on the clock, but there will still be ample talent on the table.
You could make the case that the pass rush is a bigger need for the Jags, but the team's brass must also make upgrades at cornerback. The expectation when they traded for Greg Newsome is that he would fortify the secondary, but that hasn't been the case. Even if he turned the corner, it's hard to see him returning to Jacksonville. Similarly, Montaric Brown is playing well enough to garner demand in free agency.
That would leave the Jaguars with Travis Hunter, Christian Braswell, Jarrian Jones, and Jourdan Lewis. The Jaguars could add a corner in the second wave of free agency, but turning to the draft may be the best course of action when you take into account that the team won't be in great cap shape next season. That's where Davis Igbinosun would come in.
Igbinosun has superb tracking skills and excels at defending the run. Moreover, he thrives in press coverage. Then again, the Jaguars run a heavy-zone scheme under defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, so it's hard to tell just how truly a fit he would be. Nevertheless, Igbinosun has all the traits you want in a corner and most definitely deserves an in-depth look.
The Jaguars began their rebuild in 2025, but there's still plenty of work left. Adding reinforcements at corner should be at their top of the list next year, and Davison Igbinosun could help them check off that box.
