Jaguars universally raise eyebrows with surprise Nate Boerkircher pick in Round 2

Quite literally no one saw the Texas A&M tight end coming at any point in the process.

Unfortunately, I can empathize with Jacksonville Jaguars fans and their confusion at their first selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

I grew up a childhood Raiders fan. I watched Darrius Heyward-Bey. I watched Clelin Ferrell. I watched Alex Leatherwood. I watched Damon Arnette. There's a reason I'm no longer a Raiders fan.

Texas A&M tight end Nate Boerkircher is probably an outstanding individual, but the Jags bringing him in at No. 56 overall was downright stunning to most of the fanbase. It was disappointing to others.

What is the Jaguars' universe saying about the draft pick?

Media and fans react to the Jaguars taking Texas A&M tight end Nate Boerkircher at No. 56 overall

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah was fairly kind to the Jaguars, calling Nate Boerkircher, "a hand-in-the-ground, wide tight end… as well as just a steady, dependable, reliable pass-catcher."

Jaguars superfan Kendra Middleton was a little less enthused:

Unfortunately, the box score was fairly empty for Nate Boerkircher in 2025, and Jaguars fans took note of that pretty quickly:

It wasn't just Jaguars fans who took notice of the odd selection. FanSided's Marcus Mosher, a Cowboys reporter, was quite perplexed when he double checked the expert consensus board:

Hey, look on the bright side. At least Jaguars cornerback Travis Hunter will have a chance to get a rematch after this 2024 contest from when Hunter's Colorado Buffaloes faced Boerkircher's Nebraska Cornhuskers:

Of course, I can't leave out my own reaction: devastation. I wasted so much time here at Black & Teal watching good players as second-round defensive tackles, EDGE rushers, and cornerbacks:

My grade on the Boerkircher selection wasn't too friendly, either.

I couldn't find anyone who loved the pick. Heck, most analysts agree with the assessment. It's safe to say Duval County is watching James Gladstone's trio of third-round picks quite carefully.
