The Jacksonville Jaguars entered Sunday in a must-win situation. They lost two games in a row after starting off the season with a 4-1 record. Luckily for them, on paper, they took on a lowly Las Vegas Raiders team that has just two wins through seven games. With Travis Hunter out for four weeks minimum, the Jaguars need to pick up these easy wins, especially if they want to catch up with the first place Indianapolis Colts.
It certainly won't help the Jaguars if one of their top players leaves the game due to an ejection. But that's exactly what happened.
In the third quarter, defensive lineman and 2022 first-overall pick Travon Walker was ejected from the game. On replay, courtesy of the FOX broadcast, Walker threw a punch at the helmet of Raiders offensive lineman Stone Forsythe. Forsythe was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Travon Walker ejected for throwing punch at Raiders player in Week 9
This couldn't have come at a worse possible time for the Jaguars. The team was in a tough battle with the Raiders and when trailing 9-6, walker is out for the remainder of the game. Now, we'll have to wait and see if he will face any futher discipline.
Let's not forget that recently, Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch was suspended for one game for throwing a punch at Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster at the end of their game. One has to wonder if walker could face similar discipline.
At the time of his ejection, walker recorded just one tackle. On the year, walker has 14 tackles, five quarterback hits, and two sacks to his credit through six games (four starts).
The Jaguars needed everyone available to help them get through what was supposed to be an easy weekend at the office. Instead, the Jaguars watched their first overall selection get thrown out of the game with additional discipline likely.
