The Jacksonville Jaguars are off to a strong start to the Liam Coen era, and with some reasons for optimism in 2025, it's easy to see why a crucial storyline is flying under the radar.
The Jags are set to begin renovations of EverBank Stadium in 2026. The venue will have limited capacity, but fans will be able to attend games. That said, 2027 will be a whole different deal. Jacksonville will need to look for a place where to play, and based on a recent update at Benny Hill Stadium, things are starting to take shape.
Benny Hill Griffin Stadium isn't an option for the Jagaurs to play in 2027 amid renovation news
Graham Hall of 247 Sports reports that Florida University will start remodeling of Benny Hill Griffin Stadium in 2027. That coincides with the year the Jaguars won't play any games at EverBank.
With the stadium known as the Swamp suddenly out of the mix, Orlando suddenly becomes the most likely temporary home for Jacksonville.
Sure, the Daytona Speedway and Hodges Stadium, where the University of North Florida plays, were other options, but Orlando, without a doubt, is the clear-cut favorite. Sure, the former made a pitch to appeal to the Jags, and the latter makes sense because it's close to the Bank. That said, neither venue has the capacity to hold NFL games.
Meanwhile, the Camping World Stadium in Orlando is set to undergo $400 million remodelations to attract more events, ranging from concerts to NFL games ** cough, cough ** that will start in 2026 and will finish in August 2017. That will be just in time for the regular season.
There's a chance the Jaguars will play in Orlando in 2027
The Jaguars announced in 2024 that they agreed with the City of Jacksonville to invest $1.4 billion in renovations to EverBank and the surrounding area, pending a vote from NFL voters. The measure garnered unanimous approval. The question then became, where would the Jags play while the Bank underwent remodeling?
At the time of the vote, the stadium renovation news rang hollow because Jacksonville was in the midst of a funk. Now, though, the Jaguars are winning under Liam Coen. Couple that with the fact that they're lowkey receiving more attention from the national media, and the news that the Bank will get a makeover feels more exciting than it did in 2024.
It's hard to tell how the Liam Coen era will ultimately unfold, but if the Jaguars keep winning, the re-inaguration of EverBank will be a massive celebration.
