The Colts just suffered a serious injury at CB.

Teams have to walk through a delicate balance in training camp. They must push players hard but must also prioritize their health and ensure they start the regular season in the best possible shape. But despite their best efforts, clubs are always going to have injuries. For instance, the Jacksonville Jaguars are without cornerback Montaric Brown and offensive guard Patrick Meraki. The former suffered a leg injury, and the latter is dealing with back spasms. Then again, neither injury is as serious as the one the Indianapolis Colts just sustained.

Stephen Holder of ESPN reports that Colts cornerback Jaylon Jobs went down in practice and was immediately carted off the field. Later, head coach Shane Steichen told the local media that he sustained a hamstring injury.

A seventh-round pick in the 2023 draft, Jones joined the starting lineup as a rookie. Last year, he was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week against the Chicago Bears in a game in which he registered his first career interception. The former Texas A&M Aggie was competing with JuJu Brents and Dallis Flowers for the CB2 job opposite free-agent acquisition Charvarius Ward.

It's hard to tell just how much time Jones will miss, but his absence will certainly be a blow for Indy. After all, he made 27 starts the past two years, and even if he lost the CB2 spot, he would give the Colts depth at the position.

How does the Jaylon Jones injury affect the Jaguars?

As noted before, there's no timeline for Jaylon Jones to return, and hamstring injuries are always tricky. But if he does miss extended time in the regular season, cornerback could then be a weakness for the Indianapolis Colts. That could, in turn, become a matchup the Jacksonville Jaguars should exploit.

The Colts ranked 24th in points allowed and 29th in total yards last year. Their secondary, in particular, was a liability, which is why nobody batted an eye when general manager Chris Ballard went after Charvarius Ward and Cam Bynum in free agency. Both should make an immediate impact, but Jones' potential absence would surely hurt the team.

Meanwhile, the Jags revamped Trevor Lawrence's arsenal of weapons in the offseason, adding Travis Hunter and Dyami Brown to a wide receiver corps that already included budding star Brian Thomas Jr. On top of that, Jacksonville has tight end Brenton Strange and wideout Parker Washington in the fold. Both of them showed notable improvement last year and did enough to earn bigger roles in 2025.

On the other hand, the Jaguars cannot uncork the champagne just yet. They can't afford to take Indianapolis lightly, especially when you take into account that divisional bouts are always tough. That said, losing Jaylon Jones is the kind of injury they can't afford to have in training camp.
