Gameday has finally arrived for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It's the start of a new era with Liam Coen, who looks to put a disastrous 2024 season behind Jacksonville and use his offensive prowess to help bring the Jaguars back to the playoffs. That can begin with a season opening victory against the Carolina Panthers.
There is excitement surrounding the Jaguars thanks to first-round pick and two-way star Travis Hunter. The Jaguars gave up a ton to move up to the second-overall pick to select the elite prospect and Heisman Trophy winner, who played both wide receiver and cornerback during his time at Jackson State and Colorado. But the big question that surrounded Hunter was would he play both positions, or would he play one position primarily over the other?
We have our answer.
ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed on Saturday that the Jaguars plan to use Hunter as an every-down wide receiver and a situational cornerback for the season-opener against the Carolina Panthers.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are planning for Travis Hunter to be an "every-down wide receiver and situational corner" in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Carolina Panthers, league sources told ESPN.https://t.co/P73J2mAVKx

Travis Hunter's Week 1 usage plan isn't set in stone for rest of season
Even thought this will be the plan for the Jaguars when they face the Panthers, that's not going to be the plan for the entire season. Here's what Schefter said in his ESPN article.
"The Jaguars plan to mix up Hunter's usage throughout the course of the season, sources said, but they believe there will be some weeks when the rookie can and will be deployed as a full-time wide receiver and cornerback," said Schefter.
Jaguars fans will have to play close attention during game-week to get an idea of where Hunter will primarily play throughout the season. That's understandable, as injuries could happen on both sides of the line of scrimmage, so Hunter could very well fill-in primarily at one position. Also, there's the Jaguars taking advantage of their opponent's weakness, such as a secondary group or wide receiving corps.
Hunter was a human highlight reel during his time in college specifically at Colorado. Last year, Hunter recorded a Big-12-best 96 receptions and 15 touchdowns for 1,258 yards at wide receiver. As a cornerback, Hunter recorded 32 tackles, seven pass breakups, and four interceptions while allowing 23 receptions for 222 yards and a touchdown on 41 targets, per Pro Football Focus. Those numbers helped Hunter win the Heisman Trophy.
Now, Hunter is onto his next chapter in Jacksonville to help turn the Jaguars into contenders. Based on the reported plan, expect Hunter to make some plays on the offensive side of the line of scrimmage.
