Although the Jacksonville Jaguars saw Travis Etienne bolt for the New Orleans Saints in free agency, they rounded out their running back room when they signed Chris Rodriguez to a two-year deal worth $10 million.
Rodriguez will be a nice complementary back behind Bhayshul Tuten, who's slated to be the No. 1 option in the Jacksonville backfield. Add LeQuint Allen Jr. and DeeJay Dallas to the mix, and the Jags have a promising bunch. That said, they aren't resting on their laurels. And based on a recent pre-draft meeting, the team's brass is still looking for potential upgrades.
The Jaguars met with Texas A&M RB standout Le'Veon Moss ahead of the draft
Texas A&M running back Le'Veon Moss had an exclusive sitdown with Justin Melo of Sports Illustrated. He said that he's met with several NFL teams, including the Jags, ahead of the draft. This doesn't mean that Jacksonville will take him, and even if James Gladstone wants him, another club could swoop in and pick him.
Either way, it shows that the Jags are looking to add potential upgrades at running back, and Moss would most definitely be worth investing a pick in.
At 6'0" and 210 pounds, Moss is a one-cut running back with a downhill style. That kind of skill set could come in the Jacksonville backfield. The former Aggie isn't much of a pass-catcher, and his pass blocking leaves a bit to be desired. That said, he might not be asked to do either with the Jags, as sophomore LeQuint Allen fills both roles exceptionally well.
Instead, Moss would be a change-of-pace back who could spell Bhayshul Tuten or Chris Rodriguez. On top of that, he would give the Jaguars insurance in case the injury bug struck.
If Le'Veon Moss goes to the Jaguars, he could push DeeJay Dallas out
Head coach Liam Coen stated that the team hasn't fully used Bhayshul Tuten's skill set, so he's in a position to break out with Travis Etienne now in The Big Easy. On the other hand, Chris Rodriguez, a protege of Coen at Kentucky, will also vie for a big workload, so expect heavy doses of him as well. For his part, LeQuint Allen will continue to get ample of work on snaps on passing downs. That could put DeeJay Dallas' job in jeopardy.
The Jags signed Dallas late in 2025 when Tuten suffered a finger injury. The team's brass was impressed enough that he got a one-year deal in the offseason. If Jacksonville carried four running backs next season, he would have a favorable chance of making the roster. But his job could be in jeopardy if the team's brass took Le'Veon Moss, or any other running back prospect.
Granted, the Jaguars could have been just doing due diligence when they met with Moss. Then again, they have 11 draft picks, so they can definitely afford to use one at running back.
The bottom line is that the Jaguars have put together a well-rounded roster but won't hesitate to make upgrades, even if they're stacked at certain positions. That could ultimately push out some players like DeeJay Dallas.
