The Jacksonville Jaguars have the chance to pull off a heist by trading the fifth-overall pick in the 2025 Draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a new head coach in Liam Coen, and they finally have a new general manager in James Gladstone. Both Coen and Gladstone are striving to get things turned around in Jacksonville fast, and they can jumpstart that process with the fifth-overall pick in the 2025 Draft.

Sitting at number five, there are a ton of things the Jaguars could do, and several elite players the franchise could take. As the draft nears, there have been discussions about the team sitting and drafting a player like Ashton Jeanty, who is universally considered the third-best player in the class, but there have also been talks about Jacksonville selling its pick.

A lot of teams want Jeanty, and other prospects that could fly off the board early, so it might make sense for the Jaguars to trade back, pick up a haul of picks, and still land an elite prospect in the first round. In a recent Sports Illustrated mock draft, that’s exactly what Jacksonville did.

Matt Verderame, of Sports Illustrated, released an all-trades mock draft. That’s when every pick in the mock is traded, but the trades actually have to make sense and be fair. Verderame had the Jaguars send their fifth-overall pick to the New York Jets in exchange for the seventh-overall pick, as well as fourth rounder (No. 110) and a fifth rounder (No. 145).

Moving back to No. 7, Jacksonville selected Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham, making this hypothetical trade a perfect one.

Mason Graham is one of the players that has frequently been mocked to Jacksonville at five. He’s an elite defensive tackle prospect, so the Jaguars could take him at five and call it a day. That’s what makes this proposed trade a heist; Jacksonville gets the same guy it probably would’ve taken at five, and picks up two more mid-round picks.

Those additional picks will allow the Jaguars to either put together a deeper class, or have the necessary picks if the team wants to trade up at some point later in the draft. Hopefully, a scenario like this could actually unfold on draft night.
