The Jacksonville Jaguars are trimming down their roster ahead of cutdown day. Already, they've traded offensive tackle Fred Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles..
Then, the Jags released sophomore DeAntre Prince. Their next move is abundantly clear.
The Jaguars are still holding onto Chad Muma, for some reason
There's no doubt that linebacker Chad Muma's stock plummeted after an unremarkable training camp and an even worse preseason. But surprisingly, he's still around, as of this writing. Then again, it could be a matter of time before Jacksonville cuts ties with the former Wyoming Cowboy.
A third-round pick in 2022, Muma joined a crowded linebacker corps as a rookie. He got a chance to play when Devin Lloyd got benched, but a knee injury brought his season to an end. The Colorado native got a chance to start the following year but came crashing down.
By 2024, Muma had been phased out in favor of Ventrell Miller. Nevertheless, he got a fresh start with the new regime took over earlier this year. Nevertheless, he wasn't able to make the most out of his opportunity and appears to be on the outside looking in.

The Jaguars brougth in linebackers that made Chad Muma expendable
Leaving aside that Chad Muma was underwhelming, the Jaguars brougth in several players who've made a strong impression since their arrival. Back in the draft, they used a fourth-round pick on Jack Kiser. In the aftermath, the team's brass locked up veteran Dennis Gardeck.
Kiser lacked top-notch athleticism but showed proficiency at stopping the run and bringing the heat. For his part, Gardeck also displayed the ability to get to the quarterback during his stint with the Arizona Cardinals.
Kiser went on to arguably have the best training camp of any rookie not named Travis Hunter in Jacksonville. On the other hand, Gardeck was still recovering from an ACL injury he suffered last year but is trending in the right direction and even asked the coaching staff to play in the finale to get once again acclimated to football speed. Simply put, both of them did more than Muma to show they deserve a roster spot.
And that the Jaguars have cut ties with DeAntre Prince, Chad Muma could be the next to land on the chopping block. On the other hand, nobody would bat an eye if sophomore Javon Foster also gets the boot.
