While a handful of NFL teams will be playing on either Thanksgiving slate or Black Friday, the Jacksonville Jaguars will have to wait until Sunday to face off against the Houston Texans. A win over their divisional rivals will keep their slim playoff hopes alive, while a loss could potentially bring their season to a halt. Either way, it doesn't look like the Jags are ready to throw in the towel.

For instance, wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. says he's not giving up just yet and hopes to finish the season strong.

"Me, personally, I feel like I'm never out of a fight," Thomas told reporters Monday. "I come in with the same mindset each and every day to fight till the end. Just see where that takes me. I feel like I'm never out of a fight, I feel like everyone in the locker room came in with the same mindset. Just want to finish off strong, and see where that takes us."

That's the mentality you want to see in young players, especially when things aren't going well. And at 2-9, the Jaguars will need Thomas Jr. to step up if they want to pull off the upset in Week 13. With that in mind, here are a few Jaguars news on Thanksgiving Day. Enjoy.

Trevor Lawrence is back at practice, could suit up vs. the Texans

One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Jaguars in recent weeks has been Trevor Lawrence's shoulder injury. The former Clemson Tiger originally got hurt in Week 9 and has missed the past two games. He returned to practice Monday and saw an uptick in reps Wednesday. That's good news for a Jags team that is in need of a spark.

That said, Lawrence said that he's taking it day by day, and head coach Doug Pederson isn't ready to commit just yet. Still, the fourth-year quarterback is making strides, and having him against the Houston Texans will increase the Jags' odds of holding onto their season.

The Jaguars brought back a familiar face in Tyler Shatley

Teams struggle to stay healthy at this point of the season, and Jacksonville is adding insurance in the offensive trenches: The team announced Tuesday that it signed veteran Tyler Shatley to the practice squad.

An undrafted free agent in 2014, Shatley spent his whole career with the Jaguars, appearing in 145 games with 51 starts. The former Clemson Tiger can line up at all three spots on the interior offensive line. His versatility could come in handy when you take into account that starters Brandon Scherff and Ezra Cleveland have dealt with injuries and sat out a few games the past few weeks.

Travis Hunter remains the popular choice for the Jaguars at No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft

The Jaguars are on pace to hold the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Given that they have a franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence and are set at defensive end, two-way star Travis Hunter is seen as their best choice at this moment.

This makes sense when you take into account that they could use an offensive tackle, but there isn't one worth taking with the top selection. Meanwhile, Hunter would give Lawrence another weapon if he chooses to play receiver full-time. On the other hand, the Colorado standout could line up opposite cornerback Tyson Campbell.

Either way, Hunter would address one of the Jaguars' top needs next offseason, and you can add Owain Jones of Pro Football Network to the many voices who believe he should be the No. 1 pick.

Here's what Jones had to say about Hunter being the best choice for Jacksonville:

"The MDS has followed the growing consensus that Travis Hunter is the firm favorite to be drafted first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. In a class where only a handful of players hold true first-round grades and even fewer are viewed as blue-chip caliber talents, Hunter stands out as an elite prospect with rare athleticism.

The Jacksonville Jaguars must improve their secondary, so this would be a home run selection for Jacksonville because Colorado’s two-way player projects best as a cornerback who can occasionally play offensive downs as a sub-package player."
