The Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to play their second preseason game but are already dealing with a myriad of injuries on the offensive line. They were already without their top three hog mollies, Cole Van Lanen, Patrick Mekari, and Walker Little, before the opener against the New Orleans Saints. During the game, the Jags lost key backup Chuma Edoga. But as dire as things look up front, they got a bit of encouraging news before Week 2.

Liam Coen met with reporters after Day 14 of training camp. He said he expects Edoga to return at some point of training camp. This means that the injury may not be that serious, and he could be day-to-day.

While Jacksonville will be shorthanded in the offensive trenches against the Carolina Panthers, the silver lining is that Edoga's absence may not have long-term implications.

The Jaguars are shorthanded on the O-line after Chuma Edoga's injury

Chuma Edoga signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Jags in 2025. Although he made a strong impression in training camp, he left much to be desired in the regular season, drawing a concerning five penalty flags on just 98 offensive snaps. By the end of the year, the former USC Trojan was an afterthought in Duval. This made him a realistic cut candidate early in 2026. However, the team's brass chose to hold onto him. The decision looked brilliant in light of the injuries on the offensive line.

With Walker Little, Patrick, Mekari, and Cole Van Lanen out of the action, Edoga got the start at right tackle against the New Orleans Saints. He went down on Jacksonville's first offensive drive. The severity of the injury remained undisclosed until Liam Coen provided an update.

Just a couple days after the opener, Jacksonville signed offensive lineman Timothy McKay to bolster the depth up front.

Chuma Edoga has a chance to make the Jaguars 53-man roster

Even if Chuma Edoga misses the remainder of the preseason, he should have a favorable chance of making the team due to all the injuries the Jaguars are dealing with at the line of scrimmage. This is especially true if Cole Van Lanen has to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which is a real possibility.

During Edoga's absence, Ricky Lee, Kilian Zierer, and Jiimton Obidegwu will probably get the lion's share of the snaps at right tackle. All three were unremarkable against the Saints in the preseason opener. If Walker Little is back for the finale, he could get the starting nod.

For the time being, the Jaguars will need to find a way to deal with all the injuries they've suffered on the offensive line. The good news is that they they should be in good shape for the season opener, barring anything unexpected.
