Undrafted free agents have an uphill battle to make the roster or get playing time. Nevertheless, the Jacksonville Jaguars liked quarterback Seth Henigan in the aftermath of the 2025 NFL Draft enough that they signed him. Fast forward to September, and it looks like they've seen enough of him, as they just cut ties with him.

The Jags announced they've released Seth Henningan from the practice squad and have signed quarterback Carter Bradley.

This is a bit surprising when you take into account that head coach Liam Coen heaped praise on Hennigan back in the offseason. On the other hand, the rookie quarterback had his work cut out after going undrafted, and the team's brass might have been pleased with how he was coming along.

The former Memphis Tiger never had the strongest arm to begin with, but his decision-making and fundamentals were worth taking a flyer on. Heck, former NFL coach Jon Gruden was extremely high on him. The Jags are pulling the plug, though, and are bringing in Bradley to see what he brings to the table.

An undrafted free agent in 2024, Bradley signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. He spent most of the season in the practice squad but was signed to the active roster for the final four games of the season.

The Silver & Black waived Bradley in 2025, and he went on to spend the offseason with the San Francisco 49ers. The former University of South Alabama is a bit further in his development than Henigan. Couple that with the fact that he's suited up for regular-season games, and it's easy to see why Jacksonville swapped them.

How does Carter Bradley shakes the Jaguars QB room?

He doesn't. Trevor Lawrence is the unquestioned starter behind center, and Nick Mullens is the primary backup. Unless either one misses playing time, Carter Bradley will suit up for a game. In fact, the Jaguars may look for outside options in case they suffer injuries at quarterback.

That said, the backup is one injury away from stepping onto the football field. Lawrence has suffered injuries the past two years, so the team's brass would like to have a contingency plan if No. 16 goes down. Bradley would then be promoted to the practice squad.

Ultimately, releasing Seth Henigan and signing Bradley Carter to fill his spot in the practice squad won't generate plenty of headlines. However, this is the kind of move the Jags will make to continually improve the roster.
